Night Owl?

What time do you go to bed?  Do you stay up too late?  Are you crazy do you know what time it is?  Yes, you there.  Yes you, the one staring blindly at the laptop screen.  Oh wait that’s me,  yes me.  I am a habitual night owl.  Between getting supper ready, spending some quality family time together, my husband’s work schedule, my “work at home” syndrome, our nightly fix of Criminal Minds and Chopped reruns and our chronic late night web surfing we never seem to get to bed before 2:00 or 2:30 a.m.  Of course at night as I rest my weary head down on my soft, comfy pillow I promise that I will start going to bed earlier the next night.  The next night comes and goes and the vicious cycle just keep going and going and going, just like that little pink bunny with the drum and the battery on his butt….er oh sorry….his back.  I know that this lack of sleep is not a good thing and so does my family, friends and co-workers who can attest to my sometimes cranky moods.
Since I have been taking Plexus Slim, I have done so well that I am trying to change little things, little unhealthy things, about my lifestyle that will make a big difference.  I literally did not change what I ate the first 2 months and lost 20 pounds and 10 – 12 inches.  I know how much my all-natural pink drink helps me but I can’t let it do all the hard work.  Well I can but let’s be real we all need a hand up sometimes not just a hand out.  Anyway one of the benefits of being a Plexus Slim Ambassador is the awesome support system of other Ambassadors and the Plexus Company support system.  We have tips and research that Plexus shares with us that has been preformed by industry leaders.
It is our most recent tip, Weight Loss Tip #13, that I would like to share with you today.

Eat Late, Gain Weight?
Study: People Who Eat After 8 p.m. Have Higher BMIs
By Brenda Goodman – WebMD Health News – Source
Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD
June 14, 2011 (Minneapolis) — Checking a clock may be as helpful as counting calories when it comes to controlling body weight, a new study suggests.
The study shows that people who snack after 8 p.m. have higher body mass indexes (BMIs) than people who don’t nosh at night, even though they don’t eat significantly more total daily calories.
Previous studies in animals have found that even when calories are held steady, the timing of meals and sleep and exposure to light can impact metabolism and BMI.
The new study is one of the first to explore those relationships in humans.
Tracking Mealtimes, Sleep, and BMI
Researchers at Northwestern University in Chicago recruited 52 young and middle-aged adults.
Study participants wore sensors around their wrist that recorded movement and sleep times throughout the day for seven days.
They kept food diaries to track what, when, and how much they were eating.
Night owls tended to be late sleepers, with a midpoint of sleep that was after 5:30 a.m.
Late sleepers typically logged less sleep than normal sleepers. They also started their days later, a pattern that pushed back mealtimes throughout the day.
Additionally, they had higher BMIs than normal sleepers, ate more calories after 8 p.m., and ate fewer fruits and vegetables.
Researchers took into account factors that are known to increase the risk of weight gain, like age, sleep duration, and sleep timing.
“After we adjusted for all of those things, the one major thing that remained positive, that remained correlated, was eating after 8 p.m.,” says study researcher Phyllis Zee, MD, associate director of the Center for Sleep and Circadian Biology and a professor at Northwestern University’s Institute for Neuroscience in Chicago.
“Although those late sleepers were eating more calories, the number of calories between the normal sleepers and the late sleepers was not significantly different,” Zee tells WebMD.
The study was presented at the 2011 annual meeting of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society in Minneapolis.
Advice for Dieters
“Many of our patients struggle with night eating,” says Elisabetta Politi, RD, nutrition director at the Duke Diet and Fitness Center in Durham, N.C.
People who have trouble sleeping go for longer stretches of time between their dinnertime and their bedtime than people who sleep well. That often means they get hungry late at night. When they eat late, they’re not as hungry for breakfast in the morning.
“It creates a vicious cycle that I really feel promotes weight gain,” says Politi, who was not involved in the research.
Still, she says, there are many unanswered questions about why late eating may lead to weight gain.
In some European countries, for example, it is customary to eat dinner at later hours, which doesn’t seem to contribute to higher rates of obesity in those countries.
Still, she says, for people trying to lose weight, it probably wouldn’t hurt to curb nighttime eating. Though she says it needn’t be a rule that is militantly observed.
“It makes perfect sense to eat more when you are more physically active. You burn off the calories you eat,” Politi says, “But at the same time, we don’t want people to feel that if they eat something healthy at 10 p.m., it is going to lead to weight gain.”
This study was presented at a medical conference. The findings should be considered preliminary because they have not yet undergone the “peer review” process, in which outside experts scrutinize the data prior to publication in a medical journal.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ oh sorry please excuse me…I figured I would get in a little cat nap while you read.  Well now that I feel like I have shared some wisdom with the world I am going to take my own advice and hit the sheets.  I look forward to sharing more tips with you tomorrow.
Goodnight to all, and to all a goodnight. (Ya I know corny to the end)

Independence Day.  This can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
In the United States it is a celebration observed every July 4th commemorate our adoption of the Declaration of Independence and our freedom from the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1776.
In Mexico they celebrate their Independence Day on September 16th, the same day in 1810 that the movement began by the people of Mexico to free themselves from Spain.
"Independence Day" to some is a song that helps them relate to the day they broke free from an abusive relationship, to others it is a movie that Will Smith saves our freedom from aliens.
I have been overweight most of my life and have let my emotions and food control me.  I am sure there are plenty of you out there that can understand the vicious cycle, the roller coaster...the good, the bad and the ugly of it all.
I tried the diets, the shakes, the soups, the pills, the plans...you name it.  I felt confused, hungry, cheated and frustrated.  I decided that I would try to go au natural...lol...uh no that's not what I mean.  I was gonna do it on my own, the natural way.  I read books about nutrition, dieting and weight loss.  I learned that portion control and healthy food choices are the way to go but I could never seem to do that on my own.  Also I have always had a sweet tooth, sometimes choosing sweets over meals.  Immediately after every meal I HAD to have something sweet which I learned triggered heartburn from the fiery pits of hell.
Independence Day represents more than one day for me.  Everyday of my life I feel like I gain a little more independence, independence over my health and food choices.  I decided about 2 1/2 months ago that I needed to do something to get healthier and I did.  I decided to try Plexus Slim and it has helped me to change my eating habits and life.  It is the easiest thing I have ever tried.  It helps me gain control over my food cravings and choices.  I no longer crave sweets like I did before and food satisfies me faster than before.  For the first 2 1/2 months I only changed how much I ate not what I ate and did not even exercise and I shed 20 pounds.
Now let's get real here.  Can Plexus Slim do it all?  Well no it can't.  You have to want to do it.  You have to have the desire to get healthy and commit to a lifestyle change.  For me Plexus Slim was just the thing to help me commit to healthier eating habits and smart choices.  I do treat myself from time to time, but now I know when to quit and am satisfied with smaller portions of my favorite foods.
I am making small, slow changes that will ultimately help me lose weight the all-natural, safe way.  Little changes like committing toMeatless Mondays, staying away from products with aspartame and artificial sweetners, drinking more water and trying to eat before 7:30 p.m. whenever possible.  My walking and bicycling was cut short due to my new sciatica issue but I plan on getting back on track as soon as possible.
Also who knew there was so much to gain by losing.  Becoming a Plexus Slim Ambassador has also helped me gain more financial independence as well.  If you have any questions or comments, or you just want to share your experiences or success stories please feel free to do so.
I hope everyone out there has a wonderful Independence Day no matter how or why you celebrate it.

One Little, Two Little, Three Little Oreos

Ok, so even though I am doing really good on my plexus “pink drink”, from time to time I like to partake in the simpler pleasures in life that bring my back to my childhood.
Who does not remember as a child trying to decide the best way to eat an Oreo?  Of course everyone including your parents, siblings and friends tried to influence your decision.  Parents NEVER endorsed methods that created any undue mess.  Siblings, especially brothers, love to play the game “Who can shove the most oreos in their mouth at one time”.  Ultimately this ever ends well and brings to mind one memory of uncontrollable laughter and spewing half-eaten Oreos all over the kitchen counter.  Of course being an only child my only sibling experience was limited to my weekends spent with my childhood bff and her family which included two older brothers.
I have two favorite ways of enjoying my Oreos..
My first fav is dunking my Oreos with a big ‘ole glass of milk.  I love to dunk half my oreo in the milk and let it get soft and partake in all that soft, chocolaty, white gooey goodness.  Of course this leaves its chocolaty, crunchy twin behind which is the perfect compliment to follow up with.
My second fav is the “twist, lick, crunch & chase” method which involves twisting off and eating the top cookie, licking off the sweet, white middle and crunching the remaining cookie and chasing it all down with a big glass of super cold milk.
This weekend I decided to treat myself to 3 little Oreos…ok so what’s the big deal? What’s the harm?  Well I thought the price of gas was high…but then I learned the price of 3 little Oreos.  Since I am on a weight loss mission I decided to do a little online research on the actual cost of my indulgence.  Well after doing a little Jethro Bodine ciphering I figured out that 3 cookies are approximately 160 calories.  WOW!!! Only 160 calories!!!  I immediately decide to surrender to my lustful cravings for my childhood favorite.

Gallon of Milk        $4.29
Bag of Oreos         $3.13
Indulging in my favorite childhood cookie….Priceless???
30 minutes and 1 1/4 mile later eh maybe not….
Worth it??? Definitely.

A Thinner Person Inside

Allow me to introduce you to Jacqueline Legendre. She was quite a girl and she was fearless. A cheerleader, Mardi Gras Queen, a dancer, a singer, she was cute, thin and popular. Boys wanted her, girls wanted to be her. Even after she married, she continued to attend, concerts, book signings and plays. She attended as well as hosted the best parties in town. She loved to travel and did so often. She belonged to several civic organizations and chaired many projects. She even ran the Crescent City Classic one year. A real people person. Even after her divorce in the mid 1990′s she still had it. Well into her forties, women still wanted to be her, and eligible men wanted to date her. It was during these “single again” years that she lived life to the fullest.

I don’t remember if she left when menopause arrived or maybe it was right after the knee injury. I just know I woke up one morning and she was gone. The person left behind was an overweight women, she really hates to get out of the house. This woman is sometimes embarrassed to be seen in public and seems to have lost the zest that Jacqueline Legendre thrived on. This woman does not even like to travel, claims she is too big for the plane seat.

I often joke with my friends and co-workers about Jacqueline Legendre, telling them I will find her again one day. “And when that happens, look out world, you ain’t seen nothing yet!”

On my journey to lose weight and be healthy, I am trying to make “simple” changes to my life. I am parking at the far end of the parking lot, to get more "walking" into my day.  I have switched the television from Food Network to 70's music in an effort to motivate me to dance a little while doing my housework.

Thank you, Plexus Slim, for helping me get my life back.  One day at the time.

Coming on July 4th, Independence Day, the first reveal, my "after two months" on Plexus Slim photographs.

Here are the "before" photographs, me at 227 pounds.

Signs (Sighs) of Summer

Sailing, surfing, sunscreen, surfing, swimsuits. Ugh!!! Swimsuits!  Just the sheer mention of this article of summer clothing sends chills up my spine.
Let the fun begin!
Step One:  Determine body type.  Ya ok I got this one….too big, too round, too much….but seriously, body types include; apple, pear, boyshape and hourglass.  Did I say seriously?!  How did chubby, thick and chunky not make this list?
Lesson 1:  Take it easy on yourself and face the facts that there are no real body types except not perfect…lol…
Step Two:  Two hours and four drinks later I finally commit to my not perfect body type and now comes the 6 hour course to learn what kind of suit flatters my type………..
maillot, bandeau, monokini, swim dress, classic bikini, string bikini, tankini, thong…..stop, stop, stop….geeze it is like shopping for Sybil.  It makes me want to run screaming the other way longing for the good ‘ole days of one piece and two piece suits.  This is the problem of today everyone has wayyyyyyyy to many choices.
Lesson 2:  Best choice is a suit that covers what needs to be covered and supports what’s sagging and price is not an option.  If it makes you look good…get it!
Step 3:  Like a good little soldier I prepare for battle and muster up the courage to head to the mall.  Of course when I arrive at the local mall, I suddenly realize that I had committed strategic suicide.  Did I not think this through enough?  Had I not planned this right?  How did I miss the most important sign of summer??!!
School’s Out!!!
It’s hard enough to shop for suits in my condition (refer back to body types chubby, thick and chunky) much less shopping amongst a gaggle of modern day Gidgets that have been dropped off at the mall by parents longing to get rid of these texting terrors for the afternoon.
Of course they too are suit shopping with their tiny waists, long legs and big, perky breasts.  Did I mention big?!  Have you noticed the teens of today?  Back in my day there was one, maybe two girls in school that filled out their sweaters that the boys all drooled over and the girls envied.  Seriously have you really taken a good look at today’s teenage girls?  What in the heck are they putting in the food?!! I think it is all the extra growth hormones they are shooting up chickens and livestock with being transferred to these kids.  But I guess that is a blog for another day…lol…
Lesson 3:  Never go shopping when school’s out.  Go on a weekday before school lets out.  This way no one gets hurt…lol…
Getting back to the subject at hand…
Step 4:  Scouting.  I get to the women’s department and look over the selection.   Geeze I don’t think even my grandma would choose some of these?!  I mean I know I am not the typical “thin” girl but I am not 90 years old either.  Why is it that clothing industry thinks that if you are bigger than a size 12 your preferred fashion choices consist of unsightly floral prints, huge animal prints and the ever popular old maid and matronly look?  I reluctantly make my selections and move on to the next step.
Lesson 4:  K.I.S.S.  Keep It Simple Stupid.  (No offense intended)  Simple solids sometimes do the trick.
Step 5:  The Dressing Room.  Of course all the suits I try on make me question the body type choice I committed too and come up with a few new types…shamu, barrel and what was I thinking!!!
I head out of the dressing room with my choice or I should say lack of choice, when the sales girl, who it too thin to be allowed to work in the woman’s department approaches me and asks if I need help.  Like she can really relate to me.  I am sure she sympathizes with my suit selection dispair.  I give her a once over and spew out a polite “No thanks, I’m just looking” when inside I was screaming “Step away before I snap you like a twig!”  It is then you realize maybe I should have brought backup.
Lesson 5:  Don’t ever take your husband or boyfriend suit shopping.  Despite what you think seeing you squeezing into spandex is totally sexy.  While you are blankly staring in the brightly lit 3-way mirror horrified at what you see hanging out of your suit, you see him giving you the once over with that “Yeah Baby” look.  It is in that moment you are contemplating strapping a Speedo on him and shoving him out of the dressing room.
Step 6:  The long walk.  As I walk out of the mall empty handed and feeling defeated, I remind myself that my son and husband could careless what I look like in a suit as long as I am there.
Lesson 6:  Feel good about yourself and learn what looks good on you and stick with it.  You could be at home with your feet up, sipping on a cool drink, ordering online.

Nothing to Lose But Weight

I am the “other” Pink Drink Lady, my name is Jackie. I have been on a weight loss roller coaster all of my life. I promised myself every time I achieved my desired weight I would never put it on again. During the past 10 years I have allowed myself to gain 80 pounds. They are those creepy, sneaky pounds. One day I am a size 10, fast forward 6 months I am 4 pounds heavier, no big deal. Repeat this scene over and over and those 4 pounds multiply to 80 pounds. Before I wanted to lose weight so I could look nice in my jeans, now I want to lose weight to maintain my health.

I am 55 years old, 80 pounds over weight and have NO medical problems. (I do have good genes, but that is only 50% of it.) I know if I do not lose weight it will only be a matter of time before I have diabetes, high blood pressure and more.

I have tried everything. Earlier this year I had the fresh gourmet meals delivered to my home. However, the key to this diet plan is, YOU HAVE TO EAT IT! They were delicious and gave me a much needed lesson in portion control. At the end of the day, just about every day, it seems the mashed potatoes with roast beef and gravy always won over the Thai turkey tenderloin and the Blue Crab Ravioli Soup never had a chance against southern fried chicken and biscuits. Another pitfall for me, cooking for a family and dieting at the same time.

When Tammy told me about the “Pink Drink”, I knew I had to try it. It has been two weeks and I have lost 7 pounds. What I really like about Plexus Slim is the fact that it cuts my appetite. This lets me enjoy the foods I like, I just don’t eat as much. It also helps me control what I call my “greed eating”. Although not hungry, my “greed eating” is what makes me have dessert and coffee after a meal. I just hope Plexus Slim continues to help me control my appetite.

I invite everyone to follow our weight loss journey. We will be sharing our journey, as well as our recipes.

16 Pounds in 14 Days

I know you are probably thinking, “Is that right? I think that’s a typo.” Well you would be wrong my friends. Every fall after elections, a close friend and co-worker and I begin our annual quest to lose weight before our convention. Last fall was no different. It usually begins with us cheering each other on “This is the year!!! We can do it!!” Pumped up and ready we agree to start the following week knowing we have about four good months to peel off the pounds.

The next week turns into the next and the next and then God forbid we begin a diet for Thanksgiving, it surely would not be worth the effort. If we wait until after Thanksgiving it would still give us three good months to shed the weight. Thanksgiving comes and goes and we have partaken of the gorge fest of traditional staples…turkey, ham, dressing, sweet potatoes and virtually every combination thereof until all leftovers are gone. You think the eating would halt, but not even then does it falter. NO!!! Not another leftover!!! Let’s get Italian or Mexican.

Ok, now it is December and we are making a few better choices loosing a couple of pounds here and there over the next couple of weeks. The outlook is good!!! With visions of sugarplums dancing in my head, I turn to my friend and say, “You know with Christmas and New Years around the corner everyone will be having get togethers and office parties. Why don’t we take a vacation from dieting? I mean we lost a couple of pounds we deserve to enjoy ourselves over the holidays.”

Well the New Year comes and goes and we are reassuring each other “It’s ok, it’s ok. We still have a good month to drop a few pounds off. We got this!!!”

I decided to start the popular “Special” challenge and my friend investigated in a mail order plan that sends you premade calorie counted meal portions.

Four weeks later I had lost seven pounds!!! Great right!? Well if you consider having cereal for breakfast and lunch for four weeks straight. I had gotten to the point of not even wanting to write my son’s name for the shear fact it has a “K” in it.

The convention comes and goes and we find ourselves right back in the same rut as before calling every place within walking distance to see what’s the daily lunch.

Then one night while stalking a friend’s facebook page, I came across a post oozing of excitement over being able to start her “Pink Drink” on Monday. Of course my curiosity being peaked, I started scanning her page on a regular basis:
Day 1 – “Pink Drink tastes great! I love it!”
Day 2 – “So much energy…loving my pink drink!!!”
Day 3 – “Cleaned my house AND went walking today!!! Thanks Pink Drink!!!”
Day 7 – “Lost 9 pounds on my Pink Drink!!!! Feel great!!!”

WOW!!! What was this “Pink Drink” and where do I sign up? Ok fingers don’t fail me now. I begin surfing the internet for places I can get this miracle drink. Wait up here’s a website!!! Wonderful, great…but have to order it…damn I want to start this NOW!!! I have to have it NOW!!!

Within the next few days, I found a local Ambassador near my house. I could not wait to tell my friend the great news. We decided that we would split a 30-day supply and try it out, but when I contacted the Ambassador she gave us a bevy of options. Besides the 30-day supply there were 3-day packs and 7-day challenge packs available. We decided to each get two 3-day supply and try it out:

Day 1 – To our amazement our appetite was already vanishing and we had more energy!
Day 2 – More of the same noting that we were full after only 1/3 or 1/2 of our plate lunch. My craving for sweets seemed to be curbed as well.
Fast forward…
Day 14 – Feeling great and loving life!!! My weight loss is 9 pounds and my friend’s weight loss is 7 pounds!!! Total combined weight loss 16 pounds in 14 days! We did not officially measure ourselves until a week after we started, but our clothes are fitting better and I have moved over two holes on my belt!!!

OH and WAIT did I tell you it’s an all-natural product? All the ingredients in the Pink Drink are derived from plants and the product is even safe for people with diabetes.

My friend and I start passing the secret along to friends and co-workers. I picked up several orders for people who wanted to try our new find. Everyone so far has had the same success…less cravings, loss of appetite and more energy!

We believe in this product so much that she and I decided to join forces and become Ambassadors. We are now known as “The Pink Drink Ladies”.

I know, I know you are thinking “give up the name of the product already!” Well why don’t you click on the following link to visit our product website and find out for yourself about the wonderful health benefits of this product and others.  www.plexusslim.com/25142
