My Reveal - Typical Results

I started on Plexus Slim on May 6, 2011.  Even though I thought about it each day, I never exercised.  I really wanted to, it's just that things happened.  My mother-in-law's illness, the rain, the heat, it just seemed like I could not get exercise into my daily routine.

I ate whatever I wanted to.  Yes, there were a few days I tried to eat healthy.  Overall, those were few and far between.  Then there where a few days when I left the Plexus Slim at home when I was at work and vice versa.

Ah, last week, my vacation.  This was my week of reckless abandon.  I gave in to each and every temptation that presented itself.

The following are my "before" Plexus Slim photographs and my "after" Plexus Slim photographs (minus 1 week and few days of no Plexus Slim).

Why Do I Do The Things I Do? I Know Better!

I often wonder why I do the things I do, especially when food in involved.  I call it being “greedy”, although I don’t think that is it at all.

When did I start over eating?  Was it the way I was raised?  I still remember my mother telling me, “Eat all of your food.  You know there are hungry children all over the world.”   It took me years to realize that “cleaning my plate” or the lack thereof would do absolutely nothing to help those hungry children.  The cafeteria at school would reward the children who had “cleaned their plates” and punish the ones who did not.

I want to be thinner, I want to remain healthy.  I want to change my eating habits.  That is why I take Plexus Slim.  When I weighed myself on June 27 (I weigh once a week on a Monday), I had lost 18 pounds.  Certainly by July 4, the following Monday, it would be time for my reveal.  Independence Day, how perfect.
I wish I could explain how last week unfolded.  It is still just a blur.

Maybe I should explain that my husband and I flew to Dallas to visit my daughter/son-in-law and attend Kaboom Town.  We left Saturday, July 2 and spent the week.  I actually felt I could fit into the seat of a plane and be comfortable again.  Clearly this was a good sign.

We arrived at lunch time and my daughter took us to, what she considered, the best barbecue place in town.  Well, why take my little pink drink, I wanted to eat the ribs, chicken and potatoes.  Besides, I would take the Plexus Slim before dinner.  One thing lead to another and I completely forgot to take the Plexus Slim before we went off to the comedy show and a dinner in Fort Worth.

And so the theme for the week was set.  There was Mexican food, margaritas, steaks, burgers, hot dogs, stuffed peppers wrapped in bacon, (it was the 4th of July, for crying out loud) margaritas, Thai food, Mexican food again,  did I mention margaritas and more ribs.  Oh, and the pizza and beer.  Needless to say, I never consumed Plexus Slim the entire week.  It brought back memories of those expensive meals I ordered and didn’t consume.

Monday, July 11, weigh in.  I only gained a pound and a half.  Yea!  It had to be due to all the walking we did.

I still cannot believe I did what I did, as far as the eating.  Why didn’t I take the Plexus Slim?  Was it greed?  Do I really like to over eat?  What exactly is my problem?

I am now back on the right tract, drinking my little pink drink.
I really do look and feel better, even if I gained a pound and a half.  I checked myself out in the mirror this morning.  I actually have a waist beginning to form.

Why did I do the things I did last week?  I don't know.

My reveal pictures will be posted on Friday.  Clearly, I look so much better than before, even considering the past week.

Saturday Snack

During the work week I am very loyal to my new healthy eating habits but it is not always so easy at home.  Jackie and I always discuss the fact that our eating is "controlled" at work since we do not have constant access to our kitchen pantries.  Now if you are not from South Louisiana you many not understand this impending threat of our pantries.  You see here in the south we always have to be prepared to cook a meal at any given minute i.e. hungry pod nahs  that drop in to vay-yay (that's Cajun for friends stopping by to spend time together  to talk and visit), celebrations (this happens quite often in the south since we use any excuse to get together and eat), hurricane parties (I am not talking about the drink either).  Needless to say our pantries and ice boxes (that's southern for refrigerator) and freezers are always stocked full and ready.
Since it is always so warm here, well um hot I should say, we always have fresh veggies.  I find that it is easier to stay on track if I have healthy snacks and food ready at all times.  It is way too easy to just grab the wrong snack choice out of the pantry or fridge when you do not have healthier alternatives already prepared.  What I try to do is one day a week concentrate on cleaning, cutting and preparing veggies for salads and quick snacks i.e. carrot sticks, sliced or cubed cucumbers & chunky chopped tomatoes.  I also like to keep romaine lettuce, blocks of cheese and  several vinaigrettes on hand for quick and convenient uses.
This afternoon I had a twinge of hunger so I decided to fix myself a fresh cucumber and creole tomato salad, but with a twist.  I added small cubes of monterey jack cheese and dressed it with rice balsamic vinegar.  This is a delicious, tangy, healthy alternative snack.   I may have another one tonight!
I love the way that Plexus Slim helps have willpower over the wrong food choices and crave healthier choices.  That stuff does my body good...lol...of course getting on the scale lately helps keep my motivated as well.  This morning's weigh in revealed a 24 pound loss since I started with my  little pink drink.  Life is good!
Here's to your health-

Night Owl?

What time do you go to bed?  Do you stay up too late?  Are you crazy do you know what time it is?  Yes, you there.  Yes you, the one staring blindly at the laptop screen.  Oh wait that’s me,  yes me.  I am a habitual night owl.  Between getting supper ready, spending some quality family time together, my husband’s work schedule, my “work at home” syndrome, our nightly fix of Criminal Minds and Chopped reruns and our chronic late night web surfing we never seem to get to bed before 2:00 or 2:30 a.m.  Of course at night as I rest my weary head down on my soft, comfy pillow I promise that I will start going to bed earlier the next night.  The next night comes and goes and the vicious cycle just keep going and going and going, just like that little pink bunny with the drum and the battery on his butt….er oh sorry….his back.  I know that this lack of sleep is not a good thing and so does my family, friends and co-workers who can attest to my sometimes cranky moods.
Since I have been taking Plexus Slim, I have done so well that I am trying to change little things, little unhealthy things, about my lifestyle that will make a big difference.  I literally did not change what I ate the first 2 months and lost 20 pounds and 10 – 12 inches.  I know how much my all-natural pink drink helps me but I can’t let it do all the hard work.  Well I can but let’s be real we all need a hand up sometimes not just a hand out.  Anyway one of the benefits of being a Plexus Slim Ambassador is the awesome support system of other Ambassadors and the Plexus Company support system.  We have tips and research that Plexus shares with us that has been preformed by industry leaders.
It is our most recent tip, Weight Loss Tip #13, that I would like to share with you today.

Eat Late, Gain Weight?
Study: People Who Eat After 8 p.m. Have Higher BMIs
By Brenda Goodman – WebMD Health News – Source
Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD
June 14, 2011 (Minneapolis) — Checking a clock may be as helpful as counting calories when it comes to controlling body weight, a new study suggests.
The study shows that people who snack after 8 p.m. have higher body mass indexes (BMIs) than people who don’t nosh at night, even though they don’t eat significantly more total daily calories.
Previous studies in animals have found that even when calories are held steady, the timing of meals and sleep and exposure to light can impact metabolism and BMI.
The new study is one of the first to explore those relationships in humans.
Tracking Mealtimes, Sleep, and BMI
Researchers at Northwestern University in Chicago recruited 52 young and middle-aged adults.
Study participants wore sensors around their wrist that recorded movement and sleep times throughout the day for seven days.
They kept food diaries to track what, when, and how much they were eating.
Night owls tended to be late sleepers, with a midpoint of sleep that was after 5:30 a.m.
Late sleepers typically logged less sleep than normal sleepers. They also started their days later, a pattern that pushed back mealtimes throughout the day.
Additionally, they had higher BMIs than normal sleepers, ate more calories after 8 p.m., and ate fewer fruits and vegetables.
Researchers took into account factors that are known to increase the risk of weight gain, like age, sleep duration, and sleep timing.
“After we adjusted for all of those things, the one major thing that remained positive, that remained correlated, was eating after 8 p.m.,” says study researcher Phyllis Zee, MD, associate director of the Center for Sleep and Circadian Biology and a professor at Northwestern University’s Institute for Neuroscience in Chicago.
“Although those late sleepers were eating more calories, the number of calories between the normal sleepers and the late sleepers was not significantly different,” Zee tells WebMD.
The study was presented at the 2011 annual meeting of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society in Minneapolis.
Advice for Dieters
“Many of our patients struggle with night eating,” says Elisabetta Politi, RD, nutrition director at the Duke Diet and Fitness Center in Durham, N.C.
People who have trouble sleeping go for longer stretches of time between their dinnertime and their bedtime than people who sleep well. That often means they get hungry late at night. When they eat late, they’re not as hungry for breakfast in the morning.
“It creates a vicious cycle that I really feel promotes weight gain,” says Politi, who was not involved in the research.
Still, she says, there are many unanswered questions about why late eating may lead to weight gain.
In some European countries, for example, it is customary to eat dinner at later hours, which doesn’t seem to contribute to higher rates of obesity in those countries.
Still, she says, for people trying to lose weight, it probably wouldn’t hurt to curb nighttime eating. Though she says it needn’t be a rule that is militantly observed.
“It makes perfect sense to eat more when you are more physically active. You burn off the calories you eat,” Politi says, “But at the same time, we don’t want people to feel that if they eat something healthy at 10 p.m., it is going to lead to weight gain.”
This study was presented at a medical conference. The findings should be considered preliminary because they have not yet undergone the “peer review” process, in which outside experts scrutinize the data prior to publication in a medical journal.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ oh sorry please excuse me…I figured I would get in a little cat nap while you read.  Well now that I feel like I have shared some wisdom with the world I am going to take my own advice and hit the sheets.  I look forward to sharing more tips with you tomorrow.
Goodnight to all, and to all a goodnight. (Ya I know corny to the end)

Independence Day.  This can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
In the United States it is a celebration observed every July 4th commemorate our adoption of the Declaration of Independence and our freedom from the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1776.
In Mexico they celebrate their Independence Day on September 16th, the same day in 1810 that the movement began by the people of Mexico to free themselves from Spain.
"Independence Day" to some is a song that helps them relate to the day they broke free from an abusive relationship, to others it is a movie that Will Smith saves our freedom from aliens.
I have been overweight most of my life and have let my emotions and food control me.  I am sure there are plenty of you out there that can understand the vicious cycle, the roller coaster...the good, the bad and the ugly of it all.
I tried the diets, the shakes, the soups, the pills, the plans...you name it.  I felt confused, hungry, cheated and frustrated.  I decided that I would try to go au natural...lol...uh no that's not what I mean.  I was gonna do it on my own, the natural way.  I read books about nutrition, dieting and weight loss.  I learned that portion control and healthy food choices are the way to go but I could never seem to do that on my own.  Also I have always had a sweet tooth, sometimes choosing sweets over meals.  Immediately after every meal I HAD to have something sweet which I learned triggered heartburn from the fiery pits of hell.
Independence Day represents more than one day for me.  Everyday of my life I feel like I gain a little more independence, independence over my health and food choices.  I decided about 2 1/2 months ago that I needed to do something to get healthier and I did.  I decided to try Plexus Slim and it has helped me to change my eating habits and life.  It is the easiest thing I have ever tried.  It helps me gain control over my food cravings and choices.  I no longer crave sweets like I did before and food satisfies me faster than before.  For the first 2 1/2 months I only changed how much I ate not what I ate and did not even exercise and I shed 20 pounds.
Now let's get real here.  Can Plexus Slim do it all?  Well no it can't.  You have to want to do it.  You have to have the desire to get healthy and commit to a lifestyle change.  For me Plexus Slim was just the thing to help me commit to healthier eating habits and smart choices.  I do treat myself from time to time, but now I know when to quit and am satisfied with smaller portions of my favorite foods.
I am making small, slow changes that will ultimately help me lose weight the all-natural, safe way.  Little changes like committing toMeatless Mondays, staying away from products with aspartame and artificial sweetners, drinking more water and trying to eat before 7:30 p.m. whenever possible.  My walking and bicycling was cut short due to my new sciatica issue but I plan on getting back on track as soon as possible.
Also who knew there was so much to gain by losing.  Becoming a Plexus Slim Ambassador has also helped me gain more financial independence as well.  If you have any questions or comments, or you just want to share your experiences or success stories please feel free to do so.
I hope everyone out there has a wonderful Independence Day no matter how or why you celebrate it.

One Little, Two Little, Three Little Oreos

Ok, so even though I am doing really good on my plexus “pink drink”, from time to time I like to partake in the simpler pleasures in life that bring my back to my childhood.
Who does not remember as a child trying to decide the best way to eat an Oreo?  Of course everyone including your parents, siblings and friends tried to influence your decision.  Parents NEVER endorsed methods that created any undue mess.  Siblings, especially brothers, love to play the game “Who can shove the most oreos in their mouth at one time”.  Ultimately this ever ends well and brings to mind one memory of uncontrollable laughter and spewing half-eaten Oreos all over the kitchen counter.  Of course being an only child my only sibling experience was limited to my weekends spent with my childhood bff and her family which included two older brothers.
I have two favorite ways of enjoying my Oreos..
My first fav is dunking my Oreos with a big ‘ole glass of milk.  I love to dunk half my oreo in the milk and let it get soft and partake in all that soft, chocolaty, white gooey goodness.  Of course this leaves its chocolaty, crunchy twin behind which is the perfect compliment to follow up with.
My second fav is the “twist, lick, crunch & chase” method which involves twisting off and eating the top cookie, licking off the sweet, white middle and crunching the remaining cookie and chasing it all down with a big glass of super cold milk.
This weekend I decided to treat myself to 3 little Oreos…ok so what’s the big deal? What’s the harm?  Well I thought the price of gas was high…but then I learned the price of 3 little Oreos.  Since I am on a weight loss mission I decided to do a little online research on the actual cost of my indulgence.  Well after doing a little Jethro Bodine ciphering I figured out that 3 cookies are approximately 160 calories.  WOW!!! Only 160 calories!!!  I immediately decide to surrender to my lustful cravings for my childhood favorite.

Gallon of Milk        $4.29
Bag of Oreos         $3.13
Indulging in my favorite childhood cookie….Priceless???
30 minutes and 1 1/4 mile later eh maybe not….
Worth it??? Definitely.

A Thinner Person Inside

Allow me to introduce you to Jacqueline Legendre. She was quite a girl and she was fearless. A cheerleader, Mardi Gras Queen, a dancer, a singer, she was cute, thin and popular. Boys wanted her, girls wanted to be her. Even after she married, she continued to attend, concerts, book signings and plays. She attended as well as hosted the best parties in town. She loved to travel and did so often. She belonged to several civic organizations and chaired many projects. She even ran the Crescent City Classic one year. A real people person. Even after her divorce in the mid 1990′s she still had it. Well into her forties, women still wanted to be her, and eligible men wanted to date her. It was during these “single again” years that she lived life to the fullest.

I don’t remember if she left when menopause arrived or maybe it was right after the knee injury. I just know I woke up one morning and she was gone. The person left behind was an overweight women, she really hates to get out of the house. This woman is sometimes embarrassed to be seen in public and seems to have lost the zest that Jacqueline Legendre thrived on. This woman does not even like to travel, claims she is too big for the plane seat.

I often joke with my friends and co-workers about Jacqueline Legendre, telling them I will find her again one day. “And when that happens, look out world, you ain’t seen nothing yet!”

On my journey to lose weight and be healthy, I am trying to make “simple” changes to my life. I am parking at the far end of the parking lot, to get more "walking" into my day.  I have switched the television from Food Network to 70's music in an effort to motivate me to dance a little while doing my housework.

Thank you, Plexus Slim, for helping me get my life back.  One day at the time.

Coming on July 4th, Independence Day, the first reveal, my "after two months" on Plexus Slim photographs.

Here are the "before" photographs, me at 227 pounds.
